BRASILIA — The Brazilian government stated this week the country was free of highly pathogenic avian influenza (HPAI) after not finding new cases in the last 28 days. The news comes after an HPAI case was found at a commercial farm in Brazil last month. After finishing all of its recent health protocols, the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock (MAPA) informed the World Organization of Animal Health (WOAH) about its progress. WOAH will still need to confirm Brazil’s status.

NEENAH, WIS. — Amcor recently provided an update on a new packaging development, which will be used for turkey breast packaging at Butterball LLC. The new Perflex shrink bag design features a built-in handle, reducing packaging material and improving efficiency. Amcor explained how traditional turkey packaging uses a net around the product to create a strong carrying handle. By removing the material, the company brings together a more convenient and sustainable package.

WASHINGTON — Senator Mike Rounds (R-SD) recently reintroduced the USA Beef Act, which looks to limit the use of “Product of USA” beef labels for use only on products sourced from cattle born, raised and slaughtered in the United States. The legislation would also codify the US Department of Agriculture’s rule addressing the same issue. “We applaud the USDA taking action to restore integrity to the ‘Product of USA’ label on meat, poultry and egg products,” Rounds said.

IRVINE, CALIF. — Taco Bell Corp., a subsidiary of Yum! Brands Inc., announced it would be adding some chicken items to its lineup starting on June 17 for a limited time only. The quick-service restaurant plans to have a new Crispy Chicken Taco and Crispy Chicken Burrito. “Crispy chicken is having a moment, but our fans made it a movement,” said Taylor Montgomery, chief marketing officer at Taco Bell.
