Deputies Derick Zamora and Tony Marroquin — cousins raised in Wilkes County — are fluent in Spanish and routinely work with Latino residents, many of whom do not speak English.

May 10, 2024 Students, faculty and community members held a Palestine solidarity gathering on campus from noon to 8 p.m. Monday and Tuesday, promoting solidarity with recent pro-Palestine student protests and condemning Israel’s military action in Gaza and the West Bank. During the gathering, attendees marched across campus, held two die-ins and listened to speakers during teach-ins and open-mic sessions.
