ANN ARBOR, MI - I lost two of my favorite childhood spots in the last year. Both were sushi spots. My parents took me to Miki on South First Avenue every now and again for a special night in downtown. I felt fancy eating eel nigiri. As a student, I would visit Sushi Town off Packard Street once a week to fill up on vegetable tempura. To my uneducated palate, they were basically Japanese fried vegetable French fries.

ANN ARBOR, MI - There’s student pizza. Low on price, high on oil and built to fill up and absorb cocktails on the way back from bars. You can typically stumble into them after the 2 a.m. bars close. Then there’s “adult” pizza. Oven-cooked with gourmet toppings that can easily pair with a pinot noir. New York Pizza Depot bridges the pizza age gap, so to speak. It is an affordable, by-the-slice option for University of Michigan students while also catering to more complex palettes.
