While we didn't end up getting our first look at the new QB1, Rickie Collins, there were a few other names that stuck out at Syracuse Football's spring game. Here are three things you need to know. Jakhari Williams, one of Syracuse's backup QBs, had a solid outing. In the first quarter, Williams threw a 46-yard bomb to Justus-Ross Simmons. That drive ended in a touchdown by Yasin Willis. Williams also connected with Emmanuel Ross for a TD in the second quarter.

SU has now lost its last three matchups against Cornell, earning just one victory across the last six meetings. After a slow start, the Orange tied the Big Red 2-2 midway through the first quarter and then the defense collapsed. Cornell went on a 6-0 run and took a 9-5 lead into halftime.

Syracuse women’s lacrosse fell 14-11 to Virginia Tech in Blacksburg on Saturday. It marked just SU's second loss to VT in series history, and the first since 2018. VT jumped out to a 4-1 first-quarter lead and SU tried to play catch-up for the remainder of the contest but came up short. The Orange came within one goal midway through the second quarter before the Hokies closed the frame on a run to take an 8-4 halftime lead.

Rickie Collins, Syracuse's new starting quarterback, will not play in the Syracuse Football Spring Game. He is being held out of the game as a precaution with a hand injury. The injury is not long-term and will not affect him into the summer, training camp, or the upcoming season, according to a spokesperson for the university. Collins was announced as Syracuse's starter this past Monday by Fran Brown in a team meeting.

Freeney via the press release: “I think that Syracuse has a lot of good things going. A great foundation and I think they need a push to be able to maintain and exceed that – that is what I hope I’m able to do."
