GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Wildfire smoke continues to deteriorate our air quality, and we’ve seen another resurgence of both smoke and fog this morning. This is creating a murky appearance in the skies and posing potential health risks, particularly in the greater Grand Rapids region. As of 8 a.m., multiple air quality sensors are reporting readings in the “Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups” (AQI 101–150) to “Unhealthy” (AQI 151–200) range.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — Smoke from Canadian wildfires is expected to drift into the Midwest as we close out the workweek and head into the weekend. Carried by the jet stream from Saskatchewan, the smoke could reach the Upper Midwest by Friday afternoon. Westerly winds and a passing cold front through West Michigan may work some of that smoke down to the surface, potentially reducing air quality across our area Friday evening into Saturday.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — After a round of powerful and destructive storms last night, West Michigan’s severe weather threat has diminished, but it still exists for Friday evening. Sunshine and warm temperatures have returned to West Michigan for now, but scattered thunderstorms remain possible this evening as a cold front moves through the region. All of West Michigan could experience a quick downburst of damaging winds.

GRAND RAPIDS, Mich. — West Michigan residents should prepare for the potential of severe weather this evening, as storms are expected to sweep across the region between 8 p.m. and midnight. While the overall severe weather risk remains at Level 3 out of 5 on the Storm Prediction Center’s (SPC) scale, the threat of tornadoes has increased, particularly for areas along and near the I-94 corridor.
