A more than $178 million construction project linked to a major utility company is progressing along the Lakeshore Parkway corridor. Turner Construction Co. is building a 139,563-square-foot facility with a proposed use as an office building at 200 Leaf Lake Parkway, according to public records obtained by the BBJ.

An office space in Pelham will soon host a local political party. A local political party will open an office space in Pelham. The Shelby County Democratic Party will soon move into offices at 211 Yeager Parkway, according to Executive Committee Chair Marsha Sturdevan. The party will take control of the office on April 1 and move in afterward, Sturdevan said.

The buyer is registered to an address associated with Auburn-based property management company Liberty Properties, which has added the property to its website. The seller is associated with Evan Halkias of Nashville. He appears to be an executive director at Cushman & Wakefield.

The pizzeria's third location is slated to open this month. A local pizzeria is slated to open its third location this month. Capella Pizzeria will open March 24 in a leased 3,998-square-foot space next to Mugshots in the Uptown Entertainment District at 2311 Richard Arrington Jr. Blvd. Capella opened its first Alabama location at 4700 U.S. 280 in Inverness Village Center in 2022 and opened a Trussville location in the Homestead Village shopping center in February.

Hundreds of acres in Bessemer could soon see development. Plans are in the works for a massive data center in western Jefferson County. Logistics Land Investments LLC has plans to build a data center in Bessemer. The data center would comprise 18 buildings on seven parcels off Rock Mountain Lake Road in Bessemer. The land, currently owned by Jackson, Mississippi-based Valley Creek Land & Timber LLC, is roughly 673 acres.

An aerospace firm is laying off 300 employees as it moves operations out of state. An aerospace engineering firm in Mobile reported 300 layoffs on March 13. VT Mobile Aerospace Engineering Inc.’s (VT MAE) layoffs will begin on May 13, according to the Alabama Department of Commerce’s WARN list. The company provides commercial aircraft maintenance to passenger and cargo aircraft out of its facility in the Mobile Aeroplex at Brookley industrial complex.

The Forever 21 store in the Riverchase Galleria is listed in court filings among 355 locations that may close, as Forever 21 operator and licensee F21 OpCo LLC winds down its U.S. operations.
