DICKINSON, N.D. (KFYR) - Southwestern District Health Unit has partnered with area agencies to provide those in need of shelter from the cold. Executive Director Sherry Adams says the emergency shelter is at their building in Dickinson and has fourteen beds. Adams says bedding and food are available as well as a medical screening upon check-in. She says often people are reluctant to use a shelter if they have pets so there is an area for them to also stay indoors.

DICKINSON, N.D. (KQCD) - Dickinson Public Works is unveiling a new program for residents to see how much water they’re using. Know Your H2O is an online platform on the city’s website that residents can sign up to use. Users can monitor their water usage by the day and set up alerts for when they’re gone. The water utilities manager says right now it is only accessible online but will soon be available through an app.

DICKINSON, N.D. (KQCD) - Dickinson State University has been selected to host Governor Doug Burgum’s State of the State Address. School President Steve Easton says the event will be held in the Dorothy Stickney Auditorium on January 23 at 10 a.m. Mountain Time. Easton says Burgum’s office reached out to the university about hosting, and they’re honored and excited about the opportunity. Easton says he is looking forward to hearing Burgum’s thoughts on higher education and staying innovative.

DICKINSON, N.D. (KQCD) - The Dickinson Public Works interim director commented on what Public Works is doing to keep up with the fluctuating weather. Aaron Praus, the interim director while Director Gary Zuroff finishes his time with the department, said after last night’s snowstorm, they are concerned about drifts. He said they’re also paying close attention to the brine on the roads because it becomes ineffective at extremely low temperatures. “Equipment is ready to go, the staff is onboard.

DICKINSON, N.D. (KFYR) - The North Dakota Department of Health is providing funds to a women’s organization that helps women navigate the healthcare system where there may be a language or cultural barrier. Women Empowering Women started the health ambassador program this year in southwest North Dakota. There’s a Hispanic, Black and Ukrainian health ambassador, among others. The women are connecting with their communities to help with translation, appointment scheduling and forms.
