CARRINGTON, N.D. (KFYR) – Working at the same job for more than 30 years is pretty remarkable. Cheryl Peterson has accomplished that. She started working at the pasta plant in Carrington in 1994. Friday, she worked her final shift. Peterson has decided to retire. It is a well-deserved retirement and that is good news, but there’s something else that makes Peterson’s story a little extra inspirational.

This is the story of Abby the cat, who has finally found where she belongs. “Food makes people happy,” said Carla Wallace as she scooped biscuit dough onto a pan of chicken pot pie. Making food that makes people happy makes Wallace happy.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - School is out for the summer, and if you’re working on your kids’ summer to-do list, here’s another thing you might want to add: Infant Swimming Resource lessons (ISR). ISR teaches infants and young children to roll onto their backs to float, rest and breathe— skills that could save their life in the water. The swimming pool is two-year-old Adelaide Johnson’s favorite place to be. “She absolutely loves it,” said Adelaide’s mom, Hannah Johnson.

BISMARCK, N.D. (KFYR) - Bismarck’s Superslide Amusement Park has always been a family-owned business. But the family-feel there goes beyond the father-daughter owners; they say the people they hire to work at the park often end up being more like family than employees. So, when a park statue needed a fresh coat of paint, owners turned to a former employee for help. The result is a colorful piece of good news. Some of Grace Horner’s best childhood memories happened at the Superslide Amusement Park.

DICKINSON, N.D. (KFYR) - Students in Dickinson are making history. After being known as the Dickinson Midgets for the past 100 years, the school is getting a new nickname, and students in grades five through 12 have the final say. Gabby Herman is excited to be a part of Dickinson High School history. “I never thought this would happen,” she said. Herman and her classmates are casting their votes for a new school mascot. They’ve got two choices: the Mavericks or the Defenders.
