The “suspicious article” found on campus Tuesday evening is not a threat, said Michael Lavelle, a University Police (UP) spokesperson. Lavelle said UP was conducting a “multi-agency” training exercise when it encountered the object around 4:30 p.m. near USF Redbud Lane and USF Sycamore Drive. UP did not provide an exact location or description of the object at the time of publication.

Nestled behind the Fine Arts building, directly across from Juniper-Poplar Hall, is USF’s Simmons Park. The park serves as a landing spot for campus wildlife — along with student fishing enthusiasts. Addison Hilyard, the staff adviser for the Fishing Club at USF, said the lake is a good starting place for beginners. Hilyard, who has been with the club since late 2021, said he was told about the spot by club members.

Aviral Gupta, a newly-appointed Tampa Campus Senator, said being a leader in Student Government (SG) means representing his classmates’ voices. Before moving from India to the U.S. this year, Gupta had previous SG experience and served as head boy in his high school. “We have a student government that represents the student body,” Gupta said.

A long-held dream of the USF community came one step closer to reality on Friday. USF officially broke ground on its $340 million stadium set to open before the 2027 football season. University leaders, including President Rhea Law and Board of Trustees Chair Will Weatherford, spoke about the impact the on-campus stadium will have.
