A disturbing death investigation is unfolding in the Westlake District of Los Angeles, where two people were found dead at a problem homeless encampment, including one who neighbors say was found partially eaten by dogs. The grisly discovery was found at an encampment along Huntley Circle near downtown L.A.A woman’s body was found inside a sidewalk tent that had reportedly been locked from the inside. Family members, unable to reach the victim, tore open the tarp and discovered the woman’s body.

Dramatic video purported to show a person opening fire on a California Highway Patrol vehicle during a street takeover in Compton early Monday morning. However, CHP now says the video is “misleading,” and the vehicle did not come under fire. The incident happened at the intersection of Rosecrans and Atlantic avenues. Footage obtained by RMG News and shared with KTLA shows a man running at the CHP vehicle with something in his hand as bystanders watched from just a few yards away.

KTLA 5 News reporter Sara Welch was on the frontlines of the Mountain Fire in Ventura County on Wednesday afternoon as homes were destroyed by the intense, wind-driven flames on live television. The brush fire, which erupted in the Somis and Camarillo area earlier in the day, had exploded to 9,000 acres and destroyed an unknown number of structures. Firefighters were hampered by strong Santa Ana winds whipping through Southern California on Wednesday.

Heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium high heat. Season the stew meat generously with salt and pepper. Cook the meat in a single layer for 4-5 minutes on each side or until golden brown. You may need to cook in batches. Place the meat in a slow cooker along with the onion, garlic, potatoes, carrots, beef broth, tomato paste, thyme and bay leaf. Add salt and pepper to taste. Cover and cook on LOW for 7 hours or HIGH for 4 hours. Remove 1/3 cup of stew liquid from the slow cooker.

For the cookiesPlace the pumpkin puree, oil, granulated sugar, egg and vanilla extract in a large bowl. Mix until well combined. Add the baking soda, pumpkin pie spice, baking powder, salt and all purpose flour to the bowl. Stir until just combined. Cover the bowl and chill the dough for at least one hour, or up to 8 hours. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper or a nonstick baking mat.
