Thousands of people rallied in New Orleans on Saturday morning for the nationwide “No Kings” demonstrations against President Donald Trump’s authoritarian regime. Scores of demonstrators, many in costume, gathered near Mandeville and Decatur streets at 10 a.m., waving handmade signs and chanting various slogans. Among their top concerns are Trump’s anti-immigrant policies, restrictions on reproductive and LGBTQ rights and his administration’s suppression of scientific and medical research.

The Louisiana House Health and Welfare Committee May 28 rejected a bill by Sen. Mike Fesi, a Houma Republican, that would have banned fluoride from public water systems. SB-2 passed the state Senate earlier this month, and would have barred the state health department, which oversees drinking water, from adding fluoride to public water systems.
