Following a tumultuous year that included his ouster, Martinez gave his last report to the Chicago School Board. He became emotional when crediting his teachers for seeing his potential as a CPS student.

CHICAGO (WLS) -- Chicago School Board members say they are close to choosing an interim replacement for Chicago Public Schools CEO Pedro Martinez. They are down to five candidates, and one comes from Mayor Brandon Johnson's office. Martinez leaves CPS in less than a month. CHICAGO (WLS) -- There is a revamped plan for the future of Chicago's Lincoln Yards. A recent effort to redevelop the property has fallen through. And now someone else wants to buy it. The 55-acre Lincoln Yards sits along the north bank of the Chicago River, and spans from the Kennedy Expressway to Webster, Clybourn and North avenues. CHICAGO (WLS) -- Some Hyde Park Residents are threatening a lawsuit against the city for making a building a permanent homeless shelter. Their alderman supports the move. Once a vibrant Hyde Park lakefront hotel, the entire footprint of the prime property, located at 4900 S. DuSable Lake Shore Drive, will become a permanent homeless shelter in June. It will be big enough to house over 750 people.
