ELYRIA, Ohio — A Lorain County corrections officer was fired for what the sheriff called "reckless judgment" that created a "serious security issue." The incident happened on Dec. 29, 2024, inside the county jail. Investigators said Corrections Officer Christopher Jackson was serving lunch to inmates when one of the men threw a cup of feces at Jackson. Video showed Jackson return to the man's cell and enter.

ELYRIA, Ohio — There are new developments expected in the two-year-old case of a Lorain County corrections officer accused of tossing a handcuffed man into a wall and breaking his neck. When asked for an update on the case, a spokesman for the sheriff’s office said Sheriff Jack Hall planned to release information Tuesday. On May 12, 2023, Jeff Fry was arrested by Elyria police on a misdemeanor bench warrant and taken to the Lorain County jail for booking.

EAST CLEVELAND, Ohio — The Ohio Auditor of State’s Office confirmed it has opened an investigation into the use of city money to pay findings against East Cleveland Mayor Brandon King and former City Councilman Ernest Smith. The Ohio Attorney General’s Office tells News 5 Investigators it received an East Cleveland city check dated Aug. 23, 2024. The money was intended to repay the city $6,791 after an audit found King improperly allowed Smith to use a city vehicle and fuel card.

AKRON, Ohio — A Summit County Grand Jury in Ohio has indicted a 23-year-old man for the death of a 12-year-old boy whom he allegedly gave ice baths to as a form of punishment. The defendant, Anthony McCants, is charged with one count of murder and eight counts of endangering children, according to Summit County Court of Common Pleas records. Akron police previously said that, as punishment, McCants forced the boy to participate in ice baths on March 22.

LORAIN, Ohio — Lorain Police Chief James McCann was ordered to turn in his badge and gun and placed on paid administrative leave amid an investigation into his actions and decisions. According to a letter from Lorain's mayor and safety service director dated April 25, the investigation will determine if McCann's actions and decisions as chief align with departmental policies and professional standards.
