ONEIDA — Law enforcement agencies in Madison County are stepping up awareness for traffic safety ahead of prom and graduation season, with the No Empty Chair Campaign and Mock DWI demonstrations. During the week of April 21 to 25, the Madison County Sheriff’s Office is taking part in the No Empty Chair traffic safety campaign. Each day of the week ahead, the department will crackdown on certain traffic violations that occur most often around school zones.

More than a dozen local volunteer fire departments will be holding open houses later this month for the annual RecruitNY weekend — all in an effort to drive up recruitment and get more people interested in the fire service. "You definitely learn a lot of new skills. You meet a lot of new people and make a lot of new friends" when joining a volunteer fire department, said New Hartford Assistant Fire Chief Richard Alexander, a 33-year veteran of the service.

ROME — A $4 million donation from the Griffin Charitable Foundation will go towards building the 72-acre Nascentia Neighborhood project on the Beeches property in Rome, according to company officials. In honor of the donation, the future on-site medical building will be named "The Griffin Charitable Foundation Medical Complex," officials announced on Thursday.

UTICA — Oneida County District Attorney Todd Carville announced this morning that his office will send Kaitlyn A. Conley's case back to a grand jury for new charges after her previous conviction was thrown out and she was released from prison in February. "Until the grand jury has taken action, the Office of the District Attorney cannot ethically provide any further comment."Carville did not include a date for when the evidence would be presented to a new grand jury.
