    Rep. Claudia Tenney (R-Cleveland) introduced a bill in the House this week that would prohibit federal funding for NPR and PBS. The Defund Government Sponsored Propaganda Act would disallow both indirect and direct federal support of the organizations, "including through the payment of dues to or the purchase of programming from the organization(s) by a public broadcast station," the bill's text reads. The legislation was referred to the House Committee on Energy and Commerce.

    Winter arrives in a big way this weekend, with several feet of lake effect snow expected to fall across parts of the North Country. Lake Effect Snow Warnings are in effect for Jefferson, Lewis and Oswego counties until 7 p.m. Monday. A band of intense lake effect snow has set up east of Lake Ontario as of Friday morning, with moderate to heavy snow falling from northern Oswego County to just north of the city of Watertown.

    Syracuse University has suspended a campus fraternity, after videos posted online showed students being hazed and abused. In a letter to the campus Wednesday, Syracuse University Chancellor Kent Syverud said the "repugnant" videos "put the well-being of some of our students in jeopardy." He said the videos were taken at the Phi Kappa Psi fraternity house. "I am disgusted by the actions that appear in these videos and condemn this conduct," Syverud said in the letter.
