Cal Raleigh — the Mariners catcher known by many as “Big Dumper” — is entering territory no other catcher has before. He’s swatting homers, seemingly with ease, from both sides of the plate, and he’s doing it at a record pace. Salvador Perez holds the MLB record for homers by a catcher in a single season with 48 bombs in 2021. Raleigh, at his current pace, is tracking for a total in the 60s.

RENTON — Brian Schmetzer didn’t mince his words. The Sounders need to pick up some points. It’s been a slow start to the season for the Sounders. They haven’t won a game in MLS play and enter Saturday’s match in 12th place in the Western Conference. They haven’t scored a goal in their past 180 minutes of play in all competitions. So it only makes sense that Saturday’s opponent, Los Angeles FC, is a team that has consistently caused problems for Schmetzer and the Sounders.

Zevi Eckhaus knew about as much as the rest of the world did. Earlier this month, as the Washington State quarterback waited for star John Mateer to decide whether to stay or leave the school, Eckhaus didn’t have any tips on Mateer’s thinking, no clues on which way he might have been leaning. Eckhaus, the Cougars’ backup QB this fall, knew one thing: He would make a decision based on Mateer’s. If Mateer left, Eckhaus would stick it out and give himself a chance to take over the reins.

Here are the grades from Washington’s 49-21 loss at top-ranked Oregon on Saturday nightTrue freshman Demond Williams Jr. was making his first collegiate start, but he certainly was not the reason the Huskies did not have a good day on offense. The offensive line, an issue all season, was manhandled by the Ducks’ defensive front. it was unable to protect Williams — he was sacked 10 times — and unable to create holes for the running backs (26 yards on 14 carries).

The first Saturday of November is unlike any other weekend of the 2024 regular season in that it’s wholly devoid of an #AfterDark component. The closest we’ll get to a true night game is #LateEvening action. The last kickoffs of the day are scheduled for 5 p.m. Pacific, with concurrent games in the ACC, Big 12 and Mountain West. Put another way: Week 10 should wrap by 9, which is typically the middle of the second quarter for #AfterDark games.
