The College of Cardinals of the Catholic Church on Thursday elected Cardinal Robert Francis Prevost as the 267th pope, succeeding Pope Francis. A Chicago native, Prevost is the first pope from the United States and follows Pope Francis as leader of the worldwide church. Before being elected pope, Prevost, 69, served as the Bishop of Chiclayo, Peru, and briefly as Apostolic Administrator of Callao. Pope Francis named Prevost a cardinal in 2023.

Father-son developers Paul Vance and Patrick Vance have formally requested conceptual approval from the city’s Office of Historic Preservation to build the Dorothy Day Townhomes at 622 and 626 Nolan Street. The Vances acquired the property in late 2023 after the Catholic Worker House, a nonprofit supporting unhoused individuals in the community for over 30 years, reopened last year at Towne Twin Village at 4711 Dietrich Road.

If you’re traveling by plane on May 7 or after, you can expect delays if you don’t have the proper form of identification. Starting next Wednesday, Transportation Security Administration (TSA) officers will ask passengers to present a state-issued identification that is REAL ID-compliant, or some other valid ID like a passport. If you have a state-issued driver’s license, look on the front for a gold circle with an inset star. That means you’re compliant and all set to board domestic flights.
