VICTORIA, Texas - A Victoria man accused of killing his mother has been found competent to stand trial after spending months in a state psychiatric hospital. Trevon Martinez, 21, was declared competent on May 2 by doctors at the state facility where he had been receiving treatment since being found incompetent in September due to mental illness. A bench warrant was issued shortly after the determination to transfer Martinez back to the Victoria County Jail, where he is currently being held.

Lezahn Jamearl Thomas Norman's trial was originally set for Thursday, May 15 but is now postponed and reset for August 16, with a hearing scheduled for July 10. Norman was arrested in October of last year by deputies on charges of murder. Norman is accused of murdering Nathenial Escobedo on October 19, 2024 in the 9800 block of Lower Mission Valley Road.
