RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) -The Federal Communications Commission votes to adopt a new emergency alert system event code for missing and endangered indigenous people known as MEP. The new alert will use the Integrated Public Alert and Warning System to distribute messaging to the public about missing or endangered persons 18 years and up. In 2022 approximately 187 thousand adults fell outside of the criteria for either AMBER Alerts or Silver Alerts when they went missing.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KOTA) - A Pine Ridge woman who pleaded guilty to voluntary manslaughter back in December of last year was sentenced to five years and ten months in federal prison. Stacey Bissonette, 26, admitted to stabbing Gary Little Hawk Junior with a knife after getting into a fight while drunk on June 2023. In court, on March 8, Bissonette stated, “I am sorry for what has happened, every single day I wish I could go back and change what I have done.

RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Local drivers may be feeling the squeeze at the gas pump as prices climb once again ahead of daylight saving time and spring break. As of Thursday afternoon, gas prices around Rapid City are on average at $3.26, a nearly 40-cent increase from last month’s $2.85, according to AAA. GasBuddy says the switch to the summer blend is one of the reasons, including more demand and dropping inventories. The national average is $3.39.
