VIDALIA, Ga. (WTOC) - Very soon you will be able to enjoy those sweet Vidalia onions as Tuesday is the official packing date for the season. Officials say the annual packing date is determined by how the soil and weather conditions are during the growing season. This year there were 10,000 acres of onions planted. Cliff Riner is the chairman of the Vidalia Onion Committee, he said having a set date to start packing helps farmers promote the crop.

Savannah Police Department’s Officer Mary Claire Buck, Sgt. Jacob Davy and Detective Shelly Holden and Latoyia Daniels with Savannah Impact were all honored for their work in the community. Surrounded by the club, family and friends each shared why they work so hard to support the community and keep Savannah safe.

SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) - The Georgia Department of Agriculture (GDA) announced it has recently eradicated four Yellow-Legged Hornet (YLH) embryo nests in the Savannah area. The agency credits the help of the Savannah Pest Management Professionals and local homeowners in eradicating the nests. Officials say as we near closer and closer to warmer weather, GDA is asking for the public’s help to eradicate the species as it is considered invasive.
