    Some 750,000 trees have been planted at mini-forest locations in Ireland in the last two and a half years, as part of the 100 Million Trees Project. Founded in 2022 by siblings Richard, David and Tina Mulcahy, they hope to plant another one million trees across the country next year. "I realised that I was a contributor to the climate crisis, and I thought that we really need to do something now," explained Richard Mulcahy.

    Brothers Seán and Séamus Fitzpatrick from Mount Temple in Co Westmeath share a bond like no other. Seán Fitzpatrick was just nine years old when he became sick but it wasn't until he was 16, after a car crash, that doctors discovered his kidneys were failing. Seven years later Seán was told he needed a transplant and, after testing, his brother Séamus stepped up and donated his kidney to his younger brother. "I wouldn't have a life without him," Seán said.

    New technology has been set up in an area around the Shannon Callows near Athlone, Co Westmeath to monitor for the presence of critically endangered corncrake birds. The National Parks and Wildlife Service is hoping that this new recording technology will provide more comprehensive information about whether the corncrake has returned to the area.
