An attempt to break the world record for the longest game of men's rugby is under way. Earlier today the record for the longest game of women's rugby was broken. Tagged as 'The Longest Game', the event smashed the women's record of 24 hours and 5 minutes earlier this morning. The men's record stands at 30 hours 29 minutes and could be broken in Mullingar at 3pm this afternoon. The games began at Mullingar Rugby Club at 8am yesterday morning.

A new project that aims to reimagines Ireland's relationship with its peatlands through architecture, community and creativity has been launched in Co Offaly. Titled 'Bog Bothy’ and developed with the Irish Architecture Foundation, it includes a purpose-built shelter, a curated exhibition, an artist in residence, along with a public programme of walks, workshops, and panel discussions with local and international speakers.

A man has died in a fire at a house in Frenchpark, Co Roscommon. Emergency services were called to the house in an estate shortly before 7pm yesterday. Fire services extinguished the blaze and the body of a man was recovered. His remains were removed from the scene to University Hospital Galway, where a post-mortem examination will be carried out. The scene remains sealed off for a technical examination.

Emergency services are at the scene of a fire in Frenchpark in Co Roscommon. Witnesses reported hearing an explosion before the fire broke at a house just before 7pm. The area has been sealed off and investigations are ongoing. It is unclear at this stage what caused the fire which has caused significant damage to the house.
