Anthony Becht will not tip his hand. The Battlehawks coach remains non-committal as far as his plans for Friday's regular-season finale against the D.C. Defenders in Washington. "If you're dressing and you're up, be ready to rock and roll," Becht said. The XFL Conference regular-season title will be up for grabs when St. Louis (7-2 overall, 3-2 conference), which has won five in a row, takes on D.C. (6-3, 4-1) in the 7 p.m. nationally televised contest on FOX.

BELLEVILLE — Madi Ross laughed at the nagging pain. The Columbia High freshman forward has been fighting a quad injury for the past few weeks. She spent a good majority of Tuesday's sectional final against Father McGivney bouncing in and out of the lineup. "I'd go out for a little bit, rest it, and then come back in," Ross said. "It was hurting, but not enough for me not to be out there.

Micah Abraham simply got caught up in the moment. The Battlehawks cornerback puffed his chest out a little after returning a fumble 70 yards for a score on Friday to lead St. Louis to a 39-13 win over San Antonio in a UFL game in front of 27,890 fans at the Dome at America’s Center. Abraham, in a moment of braggadocio, claimed that he is faster than his father, Donnie, the Battlehawks defensive coordinator.

COTTLEVILLE — Brody Signorelli gave himself the green light. The Fort Zumwalt West senior outfielder was asked to bunt in the fifth inning of the Class 6 District 4 baseball championship game Saturday against rival Francis Howell. But as the pitch was delivered, Signorelli noticed Howell's defense shifting into the wheel play in anticipation of the sacrifice attempt. So Signorelli decided, on his own, to swing away. Good move.
