FENTON — Maddie DiMaria jumped higher in the air than she had all night long. No, the Cor Jesu Academy standout sophomore forward wasn't celebrating one of her two goals that helped the Chargers to a 4-0 win over St. Dominic in the Class 4 girls soccer state championship match Saturday night. DiMaria, considered by many to be the top underclassmen in the country, was elated as she set up senior teammate Malena Anic with the third goal that provided some breathing room in the 49th minute.

The veteran St. Joseph's bench boss selected junior Maggie Drozda to take a free kick early in overtime in the Class 3 state championship match against Fort Zumwalt South on Saturday afternoon. While football fanatics around the country were in heaven with bowl games and meaningful pro contests approaching, Butler was content to hang out across the ocean. St. Dominic (15-6) will face Cor Jesu (21-1) in the title match at 7 p.m. at Soccer Park. Cor Jesu beat St. Dominic 3-0 in a regular-season match on April 5.
