Two potholes, just yards apart, are shaking up drivers in Birmingham’s Eastwood neighborhood. Drivers traveling near Lovelady Thrift Store in Birmingham are dodging more than just traffic. Two large potholes—located just a block apart—are raising concerns among regulars and rattling cars in the process. The first pothole is on Frederick Street, leading up to the thrift store. The second is at the entrance to the store itself, on Ludington Lane.

Fairfield Mayor Eddie Penny aims to restore a fully operational police force by 2026. Currently, according to the mayor, Fairfield Police Department has 10 patrol officers who handle traffic citations and city code enforcement. In 2019, due to declining tax revenue, Fairfield entered a paid agreement with the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office for enhanced law enforcement protection. JCSO provides six deputies daily who patrol Fairfield streets and investigate violent crime in the city.

SHELBY COUNTY, Ala. — Drug use among teens in Shelby County is declining, but the risks remain high as new trends emerge. Vapes packed with nicotine, THC, or Delta 8 continue to infiltrate local schools, and a dangerous new trend known as "Galaxy Gas," or nitric oxide, has led to five deaths in the county, said Lieutenant Shane Plyler. Plyler leads COMPACT, a task force aimed at intervening before teens end up in the justice system. "We're not going to take your kid to jail.
