Andy Collins hesitated before taking a personal locator beacon (PLB) with him on a challenging walk in the Blue Mountains. Making the effort almost certainly saved his life. The 47-kilometre Kanangra to Katoomba wilderness walk he chose, known as K2K, is one of the "spectacular" longer walks in the southern Blue Mountains, with trails traversing two national parks.

In short: A driver was taken to hospital after the car he was in crashed down a 15-metre wall in Glebe. The man, believed to be in his 67s, was conscious when Fire and Rescue arrived at the scene. The car was badly damaged but the incident is not disrupting nearby light rail services. A driver has escaped with minor injuries after his car plunged down a 15-metre rock wall in Sydney.

In short: A sinkhole was discovered early this morning at Rockdale, above the M6 tunnel construction. Workers left the tunnel and employees were not allowed into the building. What's next? Work has been stopped indefinitely until engineers have assessed the problem, the union says. A sinkhole has opened up at a two-storey commercial building in southern Sydney this morning, at a site above the M6 tunnel construction.
