CLEVELAND — As part of National Nurses Week, caregivers at University Hospitals Seidman Cancer Center received a quiet but powerful reminder of how much their work matters. It is called the "Blessing of the Hands" and was led by Chaplain Joanna Sowards, who offered words of gratitude and encouragement to nurses while recognizing the physical and emotional demands of their work. The ritual acknowledges nurses' hands as instruments of healing, comfort, and connection.

CLEVELAND — As the weather warms and dogs spend more time outside — on walks, patios, and in parks — veterinarians are warning pet parents about a dangerous virus spreading fast: canine parvovirus. Recently, a shelter outside St. Louis temporarily shut down due to what's being called the worst parvo outbreak in the area's history. Their good health is thanks -- in part -- to a dedicated and caring community. "The majority of our donations go to provide medical needs for the dogs. Every dog that comes into the building is put on monthly preventatives," Michelle deBock explained. Sometimes its major surgeries too, which can send costs skyrocketing.

WESTLAKE, Ohio — Like a lot of kids growing up, Ben Lavelle tried his hand at many sports, but his foot, led the way. "I'd always been like pretty good at kicking a ball from kickball recess and it kind of just came from that's how that all started." A start propelling him to the St. Edward High School football team, with two state championships, All-Ohio first-team punter and placekicker honors, and interest from Division I colleges. In the end, Ben's choice was the University of Dayton.
