Susan’s solo album Now in a Minute follows the 2021 collaboration album In The Game with applauded Irish songwriter Mick Flannery, which was the biggest independent selling album in Ireland that year, and was nominated for the Choice Music Prize as well as the RTE Radio 1 Best Folk Album of the Year, Susan’s debut solo EP Now You See It won Best Original Song for the EP’s namesake in 2023, also at the Radio 1 Awards.

Elburn residents could soon find some relief from the relentless noise of train horns as they approach the railroad crossings in the downtown area. Public Works Superintendent Phil Van Bogaert said the wayside horn system installed at the intersection of First and Main (Route 47) streets in 2009 has been malfunctioning since October 2022. Village President Jeff Walter said they got the system working for a while, but it went out again.

The Elburn Village Board passed the village’s budget for fiscal year 2024-25 on April 1, after a public hearing that elicited no comments. The tentative budget had been available for viewing on the village’s website since March 19.

Gov. JB Pritzker’s plan to permanently eliminate the grocery tax has Elburn officials scrambling to figure out how to make up the $118,000 shortfall in the 2024-2025 fiscal year budget. Pritzker suspended the grocery tax on a temporary basis during the COVID pandemic, but now, with the cost of groceries still at higher prices, the governor plans to keep the tax on hold.
