Two NHS trusts running hospitals in Suffolk are offering some staff members the option to resign as they work to make financial savings. East Suffolk and North Essex NHS Foundation Trust (ESNEFT), which runs Ipswich Hospital, has given staff in administrative and clerical roles the opportunity to apply to leave the trust, under a mutually agreed resignation scheme. In a further attempt to ‘achieve significant savings during the current financial year’ there will be a recruitment freeze on posts.

The chief executive of West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (WSFT) says a decline in its recent staff survey results is partly due to financial challenges and demand for its services. Results for the trust, which runs West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds, highlighted key areas of concern regarding staff morale and patient care. Published in March, the 2024 survey, which was completed by 2,373 people, revealed that 62 per cent of staff think the care of patients is the trust’s top priority.

A union representing hospital workers has criticised West Suffolk NHS Foundation Trust (WSFT) after it was revealed that it spent more than half a million pounds on a consultancy firm in the last financial year. UNISON said the £511,476 paid to PA Consulting by the trust, which runs West Suffolk Hospital in Bury St Edmunds, was ‘outrageous’.

A 37-year-old woman from Saxmundham has been banned from driving for 18 months after she was found to be twice the legal alcohol limit. Rhian Berry, of Beech Road in the town, pleaded guilty to driving with excess alcohol at Suffolk Magistrates’ Court on Monday. Berry was arrested at around 10.30pm on April 11, when a police officer on patrol, in Saxmundham High Street, was passed by a Nissan Qashqai being driven without its lights on.

Shoppers heading to a Suffolk town centre tomorrow will be greeted by the sight of hundreds of Morris dancers. The Day of Dance, in Bury St Edmunds, has been organised by Green Dragon Morris, who will be joined by 16 other groups. A procession of the Morris dancers will start from Charter Square, in the arc Shopping Centre, at 10.30am. Throughout the event, which will run until 4.30pm, the groups will perform in locations across Bury.
