STARKVILLE, Miss. (WTVA) - Do not heat mop solution, Starkville fire officials warn. These types of cleaning products are poured into buckets of water and used with mops and other tools to provide fresh and pleasant scents. Starkville Fire Marshal Mark McCurdy said firefighters responded to two incidents within the last two weeks where individuals put cleaning solution in a pot or pan and heated the solution to make their homes smell good.

IUKA, Miss. (WTVA) - A Corinth teenager died in a jet ski accident on Pickwick Lake. Lt. John McFerrin of the Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks identified the victim as Jackson Marlar, 14. The accident happened late Friday afternoon near Goat Island. McFerrin said two jet skis collided, and Marlar died at a hospital in Hardin County, Tennessee. He attended school in the Corinth School District.

SHANNON, Miss. (WTVA) - A vehicle fatally struck a pedestrian in Shannon. Shannon Police Chief Tony Rogers and Lee County Coroner Carolyn Green identified the victim as Warren Wilson, 55, of Pontotoc. The accident happened Thursday night, May 15 at approximately 8:55 near Romie Hill Avenue and Cowden Street. The police chief said Wilson left a convenience store with a friend and tried to cross the road when a vehicle struck him. Wilson died at the hospital.

GORE SPRINGS, Miss. (WTVA) - Authorities closed a critical bridge over Grenada Lake for safety reasons. The Grenada County Sheriff's Office shared the news on Wednesday, May 14 of the bridge closure on Graysport Crossing Road. Crews recently discovered a deficiency in the bridge, the Mississippi Department of Transportation (MDOT) confirmed. A study is underway to determine if the bridge can be repaired and reopened; however, MDOT did not announce a timeline for the study.

NEW ALBANY, Miss. (WTVA) - Police arrested a teenager for a smoke shop burglary in New Albany. New Albany Police Chief Chris Robertson identified the teenager as Joseph Darby, 18. He broke into Tony's Smoke Shop on West Bankhead Street on April 30 and stole merchandise and money, police announced. Police initially believed two people broke into the store because surveillance footage showed two individuals wearing different clothing.
