According to Texas Public Radio, the notice of the Trump administration formally ending protected status for Afghans living in this country without permanent residency was filed on Monday. Mallissa Garcia, a nurse at University Health, donated a kidney to her coworker and friend, Erica Valdez, who was diagnosed with end-stage renal disease eight months ago. Garcia and Valdez have worked together for over five years. Valdez, who has been diabetic for nearly 30 years, developed additional health issues over time.
