On Thursday’s special edition of “Closer Look with Rose Scott,” we’re joined by a roundtable of former employees of the Atlanta-based Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. Since taking office for a second time, the Trump administration has committed to cutting 10,000 federal employees from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. The mass layoffs began Tuesday, April 1, with a planned reduction of 2,400 workers at the CDC.

Now, according to an internal memo, the White House plans to cut more than 80,000 employees of the Department of Veterans Affairs, many of whom are also veterans.

For more than a week, there’s been an international effort to extinguish the multiple deadly wildfires in the Los Angeles area. Among the structures consumed by the flames are businesses and homes in the historically diverse community of Altadena, California. Now, there’s a local effort to help one of those businesses rebuild. The Little Red Hen Coffee Shop is owned by a family with Georgia roots. After 55 years of business, it was destroyed by the Eaton Fire.
