    It’s been open in Deering Center only five months, but Noble Pizzeria & Barbecue already has the vibe of a go-to neighborhood hang. A recent Friday night saw it packed with young families and groups of cheery, chatty friends tucked into booths and picnic-style tables, while regulars wisecracked with staff at the bar and others posted up on counter seats to enjoy the theater of the open kitchen.

    Oak & Ember, a farm-to-table restaurant in Buxton, announced on social media Friday that it has closed for good. “Well… we tried,” a post on the restaurant’s Instagram page reads in part. “It’s with the heaviest of hearts we announce our closure. Thank you for almost two years of incredible memories.”The restaurant launched in September 2023 at 1420 Long Plains Road, a space formerly occupied by Buxton Common.

    Elevation Burger recently closed its three Maine locations — in Portland, South Portland and Augusta. A spokesperson for the Virginia-based chain restaurant couldn’t be reached immediately to give the reasons behind the closures, or to say exactly when they closed. The three locations were listed as shuttered Thursday on their online Yelp pages. The South Portland Elevation Burger launched on Western Avenue in 2012, followed by a store in Portland’s Old Port.

    Apr. 9—The season's new food trucks and trailers are a harbinger of warmer weather in the food world, popping up like so many flowers (if flowers smelled like steamed buns, empanadas and cheeseburgers). It's still very early in the season, with more food truck and trailer operators expected to apply for licensing over the next several weeks. The City of Portland has issued licenses to 21 food trucks and push carts so far (it had 46 licensed operations last May).
