(Reuters) -A U.S. judge on Thursday blocked parts of President Donald Trump’s executive order seeking to impose new rules on federal elections, which Democrats and other groups said risked denying eligible citizens the right to vote. U.S. District Judge Colleen Kollar-Kotelly in Washington ruled that the Trump administration cannot enforce parts of the order requiring federal election officials to assess whether people who are registering to vote are citizens.
Peoria man sentenced to prison after enticing a minor

PEORIA, Ill. – A Peoria man will spend the next decade in a federal prison after he reportedly attempted to entice a minor. 36-year-old Paul Graf was sentenced to 120 months of imprisonment on Thursday, to be followed by ten years of supervised release. Prosecutors say Graf initiated contact with an alleged 13-year-old female on multiple occasions in April of last year, reportedly expressing a sexual interest in the alleged child and discussing specific sex acts.
Rivermen coach named best in SPHL

PEORIA, Ill. – The leader of the Peoria Rivermen is the best in the Southern Professional Hockey League. The SPHL announced Friday that Jean-Guy Trudel has been named the league’s Coach of the Year for the 2024-25 season. It’s the fourth time Trudel has won the award. The Rivermen finished this season with 40 wins, tying a record for most wins in a season in the SPHL era. That’s while using a roster of more than 60 players due to injuries, call-ups, and other factors.

The 88-year-old pontiff, who is limiting his public appearances on doctors’ orders, skipped an outdoor ceremony for Good Friday, the day Christians mark Jesus’ crucifixion.
Public access to Peoria County’s Landfill 2 to end this weekend

The county says that’s the last day for its Free Load Program for private household waste, due to Landfill Two nearing capacity. The county says, in the meantime, waste for the Free Load Program will be accepted at the Indian Creek Landfill in Hopedale, and the Wigand Transfer Station in Chillicothe.

Woman charged with DUI in connection to fatal pedestrian crash in March in Peoria

PEORIA, Ill. – A Shabbona, Ill. woman is facing DUI charges in connection to a fatal crash involving a pedestrian last month in Peoria. Court documents show 27-year-old Savanna Shriber was charged with Aggravated Driving Under the Influence and two counts of Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol. Shriber allegedly struck 66-year-old Deana Viano near the intersection of Knoxville and Orchard Place the evening of March 19th. Viano died at the scene, despite efforts by paramedics and a witness.
Neighborhood House finds missing van, but needs new one

PEORIA, Ill. – The mystery of a missing vehicle for a Peoria non-profit has been solved, but its problems remain. Neighborhood House says a youth vehicle that was stolen from its van yard was found, shortly after it was reported missing earlier this month. But the organization says it was found with damage that was beyond repair, and now has a choice to make. Neighborhood House says it will need to raise either $60,000 to replace the van, or cut youth programming.
Peoria County Sheriff’s Office seeking answers in homicide cold case

PEORIA COUNTY, Ill. – The Peoria County Sheriff’s Office is reminding the public about a cold case in the hopes of solving a homicide from 2016. The case involves the homicide of 56-year-old John Frisch. Deputies say a skull belonging to Frisch was recovered in June of 2017 from the shore of the Illinois River in Kingston Mines, after his torso was recovered in Schuyler County the previous November. Frisch’s cause of death was reported as blunt force head trauma.
