PEKIN, Ill. – The Pekin City Council on Monday night swore-in its new members, honored its departing ones, and remembered a “pillar of the community.”Monday night was the final city council meeting for Lloyd Orrick after 24 years, and Chris Onken after a little more than a year. Orrick declined to run for re-election in April’s consolidated elections, while Onken did not win a seat. Both Orrick and Onken received commemorative coins and street signs as parting gifts.

PEORIA, Ill. – There was a lot of laughter from the Peoria Civic Center on SaturdayThe Civic Center says more than 18,000 people attended the two shows by comedian Nate Bargatze, setting a single-day record for the Arena. It broke the record set by Elton John in March of 1999 with 11,766. The Civic Center says Bargatze’s evening show broke the record for the highest grossing comedy show in the Arena’s history, breaking a record set by his afternoon show earlier in the day.

PEORIA, Ill. – Peoria Police are investigating a traffic crash from early Sunday morning in the area of a nearby shooting. The rollover crash occurred in the intersection of Western and Howett, where police say a northbound vehicle on Western swerved to avoid multiple vehicles. The vehicle then reportedly ran a red light and was struck by a vehicle on Howett, causing it to roll multiple times. The driver of the rolled vehicle then reportedly exited it and fled on foot, but was never found.
Decatur man found guilty in 2023 West Peoria homicide

PEORIA, Ill. – A Decatur man has been found guilty for a West Peoria homicide two years ago. A Peoria County jury on Thursday found 24-year-old Lamentae Turner guilty of First Degree Murder and Unlawful Possession of a Weapon by a Felon after a three-day trial. Turner is set to be sentenced on July 3rd. The shooting occurred in the early morning hours on January 22nd, 2023 at the Casey’s on Farmington Road. It claimed the life of Stashaun Wheeler, who was shot in the parking lot.

He takes over for Beth Crider, who is retiring at the end of May. McKenna has served as Assistant Superintendent since 2016, and has a three decade career in education. He’s worked as a principal, assistant principal, dean of students, special education teacher, and physical education teacher.

His district covers the northwest suburbs of Chicago, but grew up in Peoria and is a Richwoods High School graduate. “This is the community that really shaped who I am today,” Krishnamoorthi said. “It taught me the values of respect and helping each other.
