SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — You won’t find Rosie Warner cooking up her signature meat loaf or homemade pies. Today, it’s hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill with a side of hugs. “Thank you, no, no, you got to settle for a hot dog today,” said Rosie as she hugged customers as they came in the door. That’s because after 41 years, Rosie’s Cafe is officially closed and this is her send-off. Rosie says she won’t miss getting up at 4:45 every morning, but she will miss customers who’ve become her friends.

Rosie’s hasn’t just been a café in Sioux Falls—it’s been a second home, a neighborhood gathering place where time moves a little slower. But this Friday, the clock will stop. After 41 years, Rosie’s Café will close its doors. “It’s been an amazing run, we really have just wonderful customers,” said Rosie Warner.

(KELO) — On the Burkhart farm east of Dell Rapids, it’s a busy day. “My son Jace just got done feeding cattle, Lenny is doing maintenance on the digger machine and when I get done here, I will go ahead and start running the planter. And we just keep the digger ahead of the planter,” said Bruce Burkhart. On Wednesday, they are planting soybeans. It’s been a good planting season so far. The corn is already in the ground.

SIOUX FALLS, S.D. (KELO) — The National Weather Service is responsible for weather forecasting, and monitoring tornadoes, wildfires, and hurricanes. With a reduction in staff, the agency is cutting corners. Congressman Dusty Johnson is concerned. “We know severe weather can be a real problem in South Dakota and we want to make sure we get good forecasting so we know what’s coming down the line,” said Johnson. The cuts are already impacting KELOLAND.
