“Hands Off” protests objecting to President Donald Trump’s policies took place in at least 1,200 cities across the United States and Europe on Saturday, April 5. The main Chicago protest at the Daley Center drew an estimated 30,000 people, along with another 2,000 at a protest in Arlington Heights, 300 in Des Plaines and 200 in Palatine, according to reports. Large protests were also held in Evanston, Buffalo Grove, Gurnee and Elgin.

Glenview village officials will host an open house to discuss two significant road intersection improvement projects, one at East Lake Avenue and Waukegan Road, the other at West Lake Avenue and Pfingsten Road. The open house is scheduled from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Monday, April 14 at Glenview Village Hall at East Lake and Shermer Road. Construction is expected to begin this summer on the East Lake and Waukegan project.

A survey conducted once every five years, commissioned by the village, was released late last week and will be discussed by trustees at their Thursday, April 3, village board meeting. Generally, the 138-page report says residents view the village positively, but there were several items addressed that Community Engagement Director David Just said the village is taking steps to look at further. The survey was conducted by Kansas-based ETC Institute.

Niles trustees authorized 10 contracts totaling $786,200 as the village entered the third phase of its response to a June 10, 2024 ransomware cybersecurity attack on village systems. Phases one and two were recovery and restoration. Phase three, the resiliency phase, will strengthen systems so they will not be as vulnerable to either disasters, such as fires or floods, or to another cyberattack, and will ensure rapid recovery of data if systems are impacted.

The Northwest Suburban Municipal Joint Action Water Agency (JAWA), which supplies fresh water to Elk Grove Village, Mount Prospect, Rolling Meadows, Hoffman Estates, Hanover Park, Schaumburg, and Streamwood, switched to a backup water supply at 7 a.m. Tuesday (April 1) allowing a 90-inch transmission main to be repaired. Elk Grove Village Mayor Craig Johnson delivered an emergency message informing residents of the water issue at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 29.
