NEWPORT NEWS, Va. (WAVY) – A man accused of killing his eight-month-old daughter and the child’s mother was arraigned on murder charges in a Newport News courtroom Tuesday. 46-year-old Carlos Johnson is charged with killing Keir Johnson and her infant daughter Chloe. Police arrested Carlos Johnson during a traffic stop in Newport News last Friday. The Hampton mother and daughter were last seen on April 30, 2017. Keir was 34 years old at the time; Chloe was eight months old.

NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Democratic incumbent Sen. Tim Kaine and his Republican challenger Hung Cao will get 60 seconds to answer questions and 30 seconds for each rebuttal during the Virginia Senate Debate, which begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2. If there’s a follow-up question, each candidate will then get 30 seconds to answer. The sound of a bell will ring when the time is up. While there are no opening statements, Kaine and Cao will each give a closing statement.

TANGIER ISLAND, Va. (WAVY) — Federal, state and local officials met together on Tangier Island last Thursday to discuss possible solutions for the shrinking fishing village. Alongside Tangier community leaders and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), officials visited sites on the island where land is disappearing due to sea level rise and erosion, followed by a meeting to discuss challenges and solutions for the island.
