NORFOLK, Va. (WAVY) – Democratic incumbent Sen. Tim Kaine and his Republican challenger Hung Cao will get 60 seconds to answer questions and 30 seconds for each rebuttal during the Virginia Senate Debate, which begins at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 2. If there’s a follow-up question, each candidate will then get 30 seconds to answer. The sound of a bell will ring when the time is up. While there are no opening statements, Kaine and Cao will each give a closing statement.

TANGIER ISLAND, Va. (WAVY) — Federal, state and local officials met together on Tangier Island last Thursday to discuss possible solutions for the shrinking fishing village. Alongside Tangier community leaders and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF), officials visited sites on the island where land is disappearing due to sea level rise and erosion, followed by a meeting to discuss challenges and solutions for the island.

Mike Holvick moved to the small Northampton County town of Oyster two-and-half years ago to a house built on what was once Camp Ettinger, which held German prisoners-of-war brought to Virginia beginning in the summer of 1944.

HAMPTON ROADS, Va. (WAVY) — Hampton Roads country music radio legend Joe Hoppel has died, according to a social media post from his family. For decades, Hoppel was a fixture on WCMS radio. He’s also in the Country Music Disc Jockey Hall of Fame. Hoppel, who ranks with the top local radio personalities of his time, was 89-years-old. The Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum, in its digital archive, has one of his airchecks posted on its website.
