DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Verona Police officials obtained phone data to scour for more evidence as the prosecution of a Chicago man in what authorities say was the was theft of $50,000 from a 71-year old woman continues. Police officials used a search warrant to gain permission this week to examine the phone of Jiale Yang, 23. Yang is charged with felony fraud of an elderly person and has been bound over for trial. Records show he's free after $30,000 bond was posted.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Two have been charged with using guns to pull off a daylight carjacking in the parking lot of a Menards store in January. Joseph Balcarcel, 26, of Fitchburg had bail set Thursday at $50,000. In addition to armed carjacking, Balcarcel is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. A criminal complaint states the victim told officers he thought he was going to die as he found three masked, armed men at his jeep in the store parking lot on Commerce Drive.

In opposition is Waukesha County Judge Brad Schimel, who's a former state attorney general and current candidate for a seat on the Wisconsin Supreme Court. Court records show Ricky Witek, 61, of West Bend submitted his pardon application in 2022.

MADISON (WKOW) - A Barneveld woman who was hurt in a crash caused by Madison Firefighter Trevor Wiggins said she's not surprised Wiggins now faces drug dealing charges. Elizabeth Hartung said Wiggins' impaired driving in 2016 and attempt to blame her for a collision left her with a dim view of Wiggins' character. "What shocked me the most is that he was able to keep his job," Hartung told 27 News.
