DANE COUNTY (WKOW) -- Verona Police officials obtained phone data to scour for more evidence as the prosecution of a Chicago man in what authorities say was the was theft of $50,000 from a 71-year old woman continues. Police officials used a search warrant to gain permission this week to examine the phone of Jiale Yang, 23. Yang is charged with felony fraud of an elderly person and has been bound over for trial. Records show he's free after $30,000 bond was posted.

MADISON (WKOW) -- Two have been charged with using guns to pull off a daylight carjacking in the parking lot of a Menards store in January. Joseph Balcarcel, 26, of Fitchburg had bail set Thursday at $50,000. In addition to armed carjacking, Balcarcel is charged with being a felon in possession of a firearm. A criminal complaint states the victim told officers he thought he was going to die as he found three masked, armed men at his jeep in the store parking lot on Commerce Drive.

MADISON (WKOW) - A Barneveld woman who was hurt in a crash caused by Madison Firefighter Trevor Wiggins said she's not surprised Wiggins now faces drug dealing charges. Elizabeth Hartung said Wiggins' impaired driving in 2016 and attempt to blame her for a collision left her with a dim view of Wiggins' character. "What shocked me the most is that he was able to keep his job," Hartung told 27 News.

MADISON (WKOW) -- A jail term of more than a year and a half begins for a Dodgeville woman who's also charged in a Madison hit-and-run death. State officials revoked probation for Tiambra Walker, 22, in connection with Walker's hit-and-run that caused two people injuries in an incident at Madison's Whole Foods in 2022. Court records show one of the victims had traumatic brain injuries.

(WKOW) -- The Sauk County community of Rock Springs is in the midst of expansion after two rounds of historic flooding in the past 15 years and the relocation of village buildings, services and residents to higher ground. Flood waters from the Baraboo River and Narrows Creek produced conditions that qualified as 100-year floods in both 2008 and 2018. Kim Ellefson lived on Elm Street in 2018. "Our whole basement was completely underwater," Ellefson said.

PORTAGE COUNTY, Wis. (WKOW) -- A man charged with a hate crime after authorities said he threw rocks at students of a Madison pro-Israel rally was arrested by a state trooper in Portage County. A State Patrol official said Ethan Hanson, 21, was parked on the shoulder of Interstate 39 near Plover. Authorities said Trooper Carey Cisewski made contact with Hanson to see if he needed help.
