Approval has been granted to convert a town centre church which dates back to the 1920s into a carpet warehouse. Wakefield Council has given the go-ahead to change the use of Micklegate Methodist Church, in Pontefract, from a place of worship to retail premises. The building closed as a church in August 2024 and was put up for sale. The owners of Major Floor Coverings plan to move the business into the building following the decision.

The site of an industrial bakery which was destroyed by fire is to be converted by taken over by a car business. Wakefield Council has approved proposals to allow up to 400 vehicles to be stored on the old Speedibake factory, close to the city centre. The bakery permanently closed following the major blaze in February 2020 which engulfed much of the city centre in a dark cloud of smoke. Associated British Foods ended all operations at the factory which was demolished after the incident.

Plans to turn a former office building in Wakefield city centre into a church have been approved. Wakefield Council has given the go-ahead for the premises on Smyth Street to be used as a place of worship by The Still Waters Church (SWC). Proposals include making internal alterations to the building to include a crèche, youth rooms and offices.

Three Wakefield Council-run children's homes have been awarded "outstanding" ratings following Ofsted inspections. In one of the homes, inspectors found "children have wonderful experiences" and "are making and sustaining fantastic progress in all areas of their development". Ofsted inspectors also judged four other homes run by the council as "good", with one especially praised for its leadership and management.
