Police and Environment Agency officers have carried out checks at a waste site that is subject to a suspension notice. The notice served on Minore, also known as Mineral Processing Ltd, means its environmental permit does not currently authorise waste to be brought on to the site at Hacking Lane, South Elmsall. It also requires the staged removal of waste that had been brought onto the site by the operator in breach of its permit conditions.

The NHS is planning to move staff into a former mill building at Wakefield’s Tileyard North complex, a meeting heard. Councillors were told the move would add to the number of jobs created through the multi-million pound regeneration of the city’s waterfront. Wakefield Council’s regeneration and economic growth scrutiny committee heard phase two of the project had been delayed but was expected to be completed in August this year.

Wakefield Council is yet to choose a developer to build a hotel on the city’s former Westgate railway station, a meeting heard. The local authority bought the old station site in 2023 as part of a multi-million pound regeneration masterplan for the city. Councillors were told the selection process for a company to build a 110-bedroom “mid-range” hotel on the site was yet to be completed but could be announced this autumn.
