It’s opening week at Camp Leif Ericson, where there’s always something to do. “I like biking and I also like going on the river and archery, and I like the horses, I just like everything basically (laugh),” 14-year-old Sophie Sherwood said. 14-year-old Sophie Sherwood is attending camp for the seventh year.

Health Connect is a local health and safety information clearinghouse that’s asking people to lace up their running shoes for The Human Race. Spring Creek golf course sold for $2.5 million “The Human Race is a benefit for 10 nonprofits here in our community,” Health Connect of South Dakota Executive Director Fran Rice said.

The popular day camp has been part of the city for more than a century, and this year has a new leader. There’s a certain appeal to Camp Leif Ericson. “It’s like fun, you get to be outside and you get to run around, have a lot of fun, there’s lots of activities,” 8-year-old camper Brenna Thury said.

BRANDON, S.D. (KELO) — A number of local golfers are taking their swings — and plenty of them — to help a nonprofit organization. Amber Schwiesow is one of 35 golfers participating in the annual 100-hole challenge at Brandon Golf Course. “You learn where you’re going to get blisters and what muscles are going to get sore and then you learn to just let go of the bad holes,” Schwiesow said.
