Despite finishing second in Week 5, the Park Rapids Clay Dusters trapshooting team easily captured the Class 4A Conference 5 title in the Minnesota State High School League’s Spring Clay Target League season. Park Rapids scored 2,698 points in the final week as Spring Grove topped the seven-team conference standings with 3,008 points. Following were Frazee (2,453), Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton (2,432.50), Isle-Onamia (1,491), Redwood Valley (1,169.50) and Wabasso (944).

PARK RAPIDS – Head coach Kevin Murphy said the Park Rapids baseball team needed to combine clutch hitting with flawless defense in order to advance in the Section 8AA tournament. Matching three hits with three errors proved costly as the Panthers failed to advance to the double-elimination portion of the tournament with a 6-1 loss to Roseau at the Area High School field on Tuesday, May 27.

MENAHGA – The combination of fielding errors and a lack of offense put an end to Menahga’s fastpitch softball season. Eagan Hastings threw a one-hitter and struck out 13 as No. 1-seeded Hawley capitalized on three errors to eliminate No. 3 Menahga from the Section 8AA tournament with a 4-0 win on Tuesday, May 27. Two errors led to two unearned runs in the first inning while a single by Mallory Halverson and an RBI double by Hannah Stotts made it 3-0 in the second.

DETROIT LAKES – Natalie Martin shared medalist honors as the Park Rapids girls golf team placed third at the Lakeview Invitational on the Lakeview Golf Course at Detroit Country Club on Tuesday, May 27. Martin followed a 37 on the par-31 front side with birdies on No. 12 and No. 16 and seven pars for a 31 on the par-33 back side for a 4-over par 68 on the par-64 course. Macie Maninga’s 87, Elle Tostenson’s 101 and Emma Berghuis’ 105 gave the Panthers a 361 in this three-team meet.

Sweeping a doubleheader from Menahga to close out the regular season locked up a home playoff game for the Park Rapids baseball team. The Panthers followed a 6-4 win with a 9-1 victory at Menahga on Thursday, May 22. That gave Park Rapids the No. 4 seed in the North for the Section 8AA tournament with an 8-11 record. Park Rapids will open the playoffs by hosting No. 5 Roseau (5-11) at 5 p.m. on Tuesday (May 27).
