    CASS LAKE – Walker-Hackensack-Akeley posted the top five scores in winning a Northern Pines Conference boys golf meet at Sandtrap Golf Course on Thursday, May 1. Gus Pederson led the field with a 35 on the par-36 front side as the Wolves carded a four-golfer score of 145. Deer River followed with a 167 while United North Central was third with a 172. Nevis finished eighth with a 222.

    Losing several close games has the Menahga baseball team off to a 2-7 start this season. The Braves opened the season with a 4-1 Section 8AA loss to Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton on April 10. Creed Koll took the loss. In the Park Region Conference opener on April 11, the Braves lost to Wadena-Deer Creek 9-3 as Alvin Salmen was the losing pitcher. Fordyce Johnson (2-4) and Koll (2-4, two RBI) led Menahga’s seven-hit attack. Sebeka swept the Braves 4-3 and 11-1 in a conference doubleheader on April 15.

    BEMIDJI – Bemidji used five singles, four walks and an error to score all its runs in the first inning in a 10-4 fastpitch softball win over Park Rapids on Thursday, May 1. Allie Michaelson walked and scored in the second while singles by Allie Rowland and Vivian Shepersky led to another run in the third for Park Rapids. The Panthers scored their final two runs in the sixth on a double by Michaelson and singles by Adrienne Cook, Madi Himango and Anna Yliniemi.

    The Nevis fastpitch softball team suffered three Upper Mississippi Conference losses to fall to 3-3 in conference play and 5-4 overall. Blackduck scored twice in the second inning and twice in the sixth in a 4-0 win over the Tigers at Blackduck on Wednesday, April 30. Peyton Offerdahl recorded eight strikeouts in the loss. Northome-Kelliher swept a doubleheader at Nevis on Thursday, May 1. The Mustangs followed a 15-4 win in the first game with a 6-1 victory in the second game.
