    PILLAGER – Joie Koll allowed only six hits and one walk while striking out 27 and was supported by an offense that pounded out 21 hits as the Menahga softball team opened the season with a Park Region Conference doubleheader sweep over Pillager on Tuesday, April 8. Koll threw a one-hitter and struck out 14 as the Braves won the opener 6-1 and scattered five hits while striking out 13 as Menahga completed the sweep with an 8-2 win in the second game.

    PARK RAPIDS – Even though Jeb Sanford was hoping for a few more wins, he was satisfied with how competitive the Park Rapids boys basketball team was in his first season as head coach. The Panthers went 7-8 in their first season in the Heart O’Lakes Conference while finishing with a 12-15 overall mark. Park Rapids also earned a home game to open the Section 8AA tournament.

    BEMIDJI – United North Central won two events in the girls meet and Nevis won a pair of events in the boys meet during the Beaver Relays indoor track and field meet at the Gillett Wellness Center on the campus of Bemidji State University on Tuesday, April 8. In the 12-team boys meet, UNC finished third with 42 points behind a winning effort by Riley Livingston, Matthew Treinen, Gravin Schneider and Elliot Roth in the 4 x 800-meter relay (9:55.90).
