    MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) -On Thursday, Northern Michigan University students stepped into the role of teachers for a few hours. The school hosted its annual Celebration of Student Scholarship event. Senior Teniola Ajayi told a TV6 reporter that in addition to being a biology major, she’s also a young entrepreneur. For her project, Ajayi spent hours researching and designing a tool to keep gym equipment bacteria-free.

    GWINN, Mich. (WLUC) -An undefeated Marquette County quiz bowl team is heading to a national competition. The Gwinn High School Quiz Bowl Team is headed to nationals after taking 1st place in the Class C and D divisions. After winning states, they’ll travel to Chicago later this month to compete with the best schools in the country. One player, Charles Lininger, says it’s something more students should get involved in.

    MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - An Ishpeming man is inspiring others through his music. For composer Brandon Nelson, hearing students bring his music to life never fails to put a smile on his face. On Monday, the NMU Symphonic Band performed one of Nelson’s pieces. The theme of the concert was ‘From Darkness to Light’ and his piece is called Perseverantia. He describes it as a reflection of hope.

    ISHPEMING, Mich. (WLUC) - A new mixed-use space in Ishpeming has officially opened, offering public amenities and business opportunities. The Burrow celebrated its grand opening Wednesday in the heart of the community. It’s a collaborative space put on by local businesses at 200 East Division Street. There’s also a variety of items for sale, including books, plants, paints, mocktails and a selection of snacks. The Burrow Partner Amy Turner describes it as a fantastic place for anyone to enjoy.
