UPPER MICHIGAN (WLUC) - On Saturday and Sunday, you have the opportunity to try out some free outdoor activities. The Michigan DNR is hosting its Three Free Weekend. You will be able to fish, ride ORVs and visit state parks without any licenses. All fish rules and regulations still apply and conservation officers will be out patrolling just to make sure people are being safe. DNR spokesperson John Pepin says this is an opportunity for more people to be introduced to new nature activities.

MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - More people in Marquette County are experiencing financial hardship. The most recent ALICE report shows 41% of county households now qualify as “Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed.”That defines people who are above the poverty line but still struggling to afford necessities. Isolated, that number is a decrease from 2023. However, United Way of Marquette County Executive Director Andrew Rickauer says it’s more complicated.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - There’s a change coming to a popular running series in Marquette. As TV6 previously reported, the Marquette Trail Running Series is now in the hands of the 906 Adventure Team. Founder Andrew Rickauer has handed things off after 15 years. The team walked through the schedule and took questions from the public Wednesday. Rickauer says most of what people love about the event isn’t changing.

MARQUETTE COUNTY, Mich. (WLUC) - We’re continuing to keep a close eye on the two measles cases in Marquette County. Thursday marks one week since the first case was reported. Since measles has hit the U.P., health care teams like the Marquette County Health Department are working to keep the disease from spreading. Medical Director Dr. Robert Van Howe says the break in new cases is good, but there’s no reason to celebrate. “Each day is a blessing going forward,” Dr. Van Howe said.

MARQUETTE, Mich. (WLUC) - Eagle Mine in Big Bay held a forum at Northern Michigan University on Tuesday. The forum highlighted the mine’s efforts to improve operations. Eagle Mine Managing Director Darby Stacey says his team has made two key changes. Over the past year, he says the mine partnered with a mineral exploration firm and launched a rehab campaign after a fall of ground. “We went in and installed more growth support and more bolts to make that safe.
