    MT. PLEASANT — CMU’s School of Medicine received its largest donation ever – $5.1 million. The donation comes from the estate of Bruce E. Livingston and will be used to provide scholarships for students enrolled in the university. The donation will help students with the cost of attendance, with a portion allocated for student research. The donation was given to the program because of the empathy and compassionate care that was given to Bruce E. Livingston when he was hospitalized.

    TRAVERSE CITY -- Traverse city leaders and community partners are now looking at more ways they can support people experiencing homelessness, after the Safe Harbor Shelter shut down for the season earlier this week. City manager, Liz Vogel said two portable restrooms, two sinks, and two benches with solar power charging stations will be installed near ‘The Pines’, a homeless encampment near the Village at Grand Traverse Commons.

    LAKE COUNTY -- Law enforcement officers from around the state have been in Lake County this week for ORV training. The Lake County Sheriff’s Office is hosting their first ever ORV Deputy Academy, conducting the training at the county’s ORV park that was built last year. 17 deputies representing 10 different sheriff’s offices throughout the state took part.

    TRAVERSE CITY — Some good news as the disruptive construction project on the main artery in the downtown area of Traverse City is making some major progress. Stage one of phase one of the Grandview Parkway/Front Street construction project in Traverse City is almost complete. The popular route that has more than 30,000 people driving through on any given day is getting a major overhaul for the first time since 1956 to the tune of $24.7 million.

    Wexford County’s Register of Deeds, Roxanne Snyder said they rolled out the new initiative called ‘Fraud Notify’ because there is an increase in cases of identity theft or properties being stolen. Snyder said the program doesn’t stop fraud from happening but it’s a great tool to have in your toolbox if you have unattended property. The initiative alerts you if a document is recorded with the county in your name.
