CLEVELAND — The innocent bystander who was badly injured when her SUV was struck by a car that was allegedly fleeing from Cuyahoga County sheriff's deputies has died, officials confirmed Tuesday. According to a release from county spokesperson Jennifer Ciaccia, Tamya Westmoreland was pronounced dead Sunday at University Hospitals Cleveland Medical Center, more than two weeks after the fiery wreck near the Cleveland Memorial Shoreway. The Cleveland native was 48 years old.

CHARDON, Ohio — A Chardon man will spend the next four years in prison for a 2023 crash involving an ambulance that killed a patient and injured two EMTs. Jason Slepsky, 37, pleaded no contest two months ago to aggravated vehicular homicide along with two other charges. Besides the prison sentence, Geauga County Judge Carolyn J. Paschke last week ordered his driver's license to be suspended for six years.

AKRON, Ohio — The Summit County Sheriff's Office says a 17-year-old girl is in custody after she allegedly tried to bring a loaded gun into Akron's Buchtel Community Learning Center on Monday. The department says one of its deputies spotted the firearm during security screenings at the high school. The building was then placed on lockdown, with authorities determining that the bag containing the loaded 9mm pistol belonged to the teen girl. No one was injured and law enforcement secured the gun.
