    Former Marshall basketball players Mikel Beyers and Jarrod West will be playing in the TBT, but they will not be playing for Herd That. West will instead play for Best Virginia, the WVU alumni-based squad, for his father Jarrod West Sr., who will be head coach. West Jr. played collegiately at both Marshall and Louisville and has played for Herd That in recent renditions of the TBT. West Sr. was the first-ever Best Virginia head coach when it made its first appearance back in 2019.

    The Bandits of the AUSL took an 8-4 win over the Talons (5-3) on Thursday, improving to a league-best 6-2. Marshall University head coach Morgan Zerkle was efficient as always as a leadoff hitter, going 3 for 5 with a home run, two runs and three runs batted in. Sydney McKinney, an assistant at Marshall last season, also tabbed a pair of hits. Zerkle hit a solo homer in the third to bring the game within two runs, 4-2, before a two-RBI single in the fourth tied it at four.

    HUNTINGTON — Marshall University pitcher and Ona native Kenyon Collins has had a phenomenal start to his summer season with the Tri-State Coal Cats, yet to allow an earned run in his two appearances this season and earning the Appalachian League’s first pitcher of the week honors. The performance that earned him the mark was a four-inning start in which he struck out 10 batters and allowed just two hits against the Elizabethton River Riders.

    Recruitment season has certainly ramped up for the Marshall football team with four new commitments for the Class of 2026 being announced in the last three days. Jaycee Houston II, Drew Williams, Mason Ramsey and Andre Parker each announced their commitments to Marshall on social media. Houston is a defensive back from Withrow University High School in Cincinnati. He is a member of the class of 2026 and measures at 6-foot-2 and 175 pounds.

    Marshall University men’s basketball coach Corny Jackson announced the addition of Steve Snell as an assistant coach Friday. Snell is a native of Radford, Virginia, and was an assistant coach under Greg White from 1996-2001. Jackson played for Snell during his time with the Herd as a point guard. “This is a full circle moment for me,” Jackson said via the release. “To now have the opportunity to work alongside someone who helped shape me as both a player and a person is truly special.
