COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) – When Tommy Smith was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis back in 2012, his family reacted like any family would. Rallying together around Smith, and that gracious support from his community has benefited Smith in more ways than he can express. ALS robs the body of the ability to walk, talk, eat, work, and in the worst cases the ability to breathe. Relatively, Tommy Smith has been lucky. Where most cases of ALS have a 2-5 year life expectancy, Smith is on year thirteen.

COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) – Jarvis Jones was a leader for Carver’s 2007 state championship team. There was no question that he had the potential to advance to the next level and beyond, as he was one of the highest recruited linebackers in the nation. Jones would live up to that potential, becoming a standout at Georgia and later being drafted by the Pittsburgh Steelers in 2013. At Georgia, he was the 2012 SEC Defensive Player of the Year award. In his collegiate career, he picked up 28 sacks.

COLUMBUS, Ga (WRBL) – The Brookstone Cougars started the 2025 Baseball season with one goal, to repeat as state champions. The 2024 team was able to accomplish that feat for the first time since the team won in 1981, by beating First Presbyterian Day in the finals last year. This year’s team features many of the same players from last year; Maxwell Jones, Will Turner, and Charles Briscoe are some star contributors that lead the team as seniors.
