AMERICAN FORK — The six cities that formed an interlocal agreement in July to study a split from the Alpine School District on Tuesday unanimously voted to place the split on the ballot come November, giving residents the opportunity to decide on whether or not their cities will split from the state’s largest district.

VINEYARD, Utah — Several people were sent to the hospital following an overnight carbon monoxide leak in Vineyard Wednesday. Sgt. Austin Edwards with the Utah County Sheriff’s Office said officers responded to a CO leak at a home near 330 North. This happened around 1 a.m. Approximately 10 people were inside the residence. Six people were transported to an area hospital, with two of them in a “more critical” condition. Dominion Energy plans to visit the scene to “run some tests,” Edwards said.

SALT LAKE CITY — Taberon Dave Honie was 23 years old when he was sentenced to die in 1999. Now 48, Honie has spent more than half of his life on death row. Just after midnight on Thursday morning, he is scheduled to become the eighth person executed by the state of Utah since 1977 after the U.S. Supreme Court reinstated the death penalty the year before.

SALT LAKE CITY — A new online tool is helping the state gather data on Utah’s groundwater levels. And results are raising some concern about depleting groundwater levels, mainly in southern and southwestern Utah. The online aggregates 30 years of state and federal data so researchers and policymakers can help identify areas where Utah may need to conserve water, where climate might be impacting water supply, and where changes to storage are needed.

SALT LAKE CITY — A software error led to a hand recount and ultimately the correct vote tally in an extremely tight congressional primary race in Utah. The incumbent, Rep. Celeste Maloy R-Utah, is now the declared the winner in the Republican primary race for the 2nd Congressional District against challenger Colby Jenkins. In all, about 107,000 votes were cast. According to Lt. Gov. Deidre Henderson, 176 votes separated the two candidates.
