LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A Clark County grand jury indicted a man accused of murdering his ex-girlfriend’s new boyfriend in 2008 and then fleeing to Mexico, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned. Jonathan Romero, 34, is charged with murder with a deadly weapon, attempted murder with a deadly weapon, and burglary while in possession of a deadly weapon. The FBI arrested Romero in Mexico, the 8 News Now Investigators first reported. It is unclear when he was taken into custody.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Nevada’s parole board denied parole for a former police officer who is in prison in connection with the murder of a woman in 1997, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned. Arthur Sewell, 58, will continue to serve time in prison for Nadia Iverson’s death. Sewell began serving a six-to-15-year prison sentence in 2023 after entering a plea deal for voluntary manslaughter with use of a deadly weapon enhancement. Sewell also received credit for time already served in jail.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A woman who was struck by a Henderson police sergeant said she is working with an attorney to file a lawsuit. Sgt. Scott Alward is seen on video striking Nakeisha Kelly, 38, on Oct. 26, 2024. “You’re supposed to protect and serve the community,” Kelly told the 8 News Now Investigators. “You’re not protecting this community.”Kelly said she did not know she could file a complaint against Alward at the police department, and she did not know how to prove Alward struck her.

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Prosecutors introduced evidence to a Clark County grand jury in a potential case against a police officer who shot and killed a homeowner, the 8 News Now Investigators have learned. Sources said grand jury proceedings began and are expected to continue. Las Vegas Metro police officer Alexander Bookman shot and killed Brandon Durham, 43, last November, 14 seconds after entering his home. Durham called police to report an intruder. Bookman shot Durham seven times.
