Catholic parishes and schools in Yuma County were selected for grants from the Catholic Foundation for the Roman Catholic Diocese of Tucson, officials announced. -St. Jude Thaddeus in San Luis is receiving $10,550 to purchase new security doors, office computers, chairs and tables. -St. Francis of Assisi in Yuma will receive nearly $8,000 for updates to the parish exterior. -Yuma Catholic High School will use its funds to install a security gate on campus.

A Somerton woman was terminated from her position as a cheerleading coach and physical education teacher at Somerton High School after she says she made accommodations for a male cheerleader who was being bullied at school for his sexual orientation. Alyssa Plaza tells KAWC she did not receive any warnings from school administration when she allowed the boy to change outside of the boys locker room and restroom.

Yuma Mayor Doug Nicholls gave an update on a new Amazon Delivery Station set to open here later this year during his State of the City address on Tuesday. Mayor Nicholls highlighted growth and investments throughout Yuma during his speech at Arizona Western College. With regards to the Amazon station going up at 32nd and 4 E, Nicholls said it will bring about 250 jobs and $23 million in new investments but is not a fulfillment center.
