Shota Imanaga’s time on the injured list is nearing its end. The Cubs’ lefty starting pitcher, who has been on the IL since May 5 with a strained hamstring, will make his next start with the big league team, manager Craig Counsell said Saturday, after he threw 4 1/3 scoreless innings in a rehab start with Triple-A Iowa on Friday night. He’ll join the Cubs on next week’s trip to St. Louis, where they play a four-game series with the rival Cardinals. “Everything went great,” Counsell said.

Is Pete Crow-Armstrong going to be a member of the 600-homer club? Is he going to launch 60 home runs in a season? Who knows how similar the resumes will be once Crow-Armstrong’s playing days are over? But with Sammy Sosa returning to Wrigley Field for a hero’s welcome Friday, there were comparisons being thrown around putting the Cubs’ newest star and their most accomplished hitter ever in the same bucket.

If it seems like the Cubs are more fun to watch this year — and are having more fun themselves — there’s a reason for that. “Last year, we had a good clubhouse,” first baseman Michael Busch told the Sun-Times on Sunday. “But this year, winning does help a little bit. I mean, that’s what we’re put here to do, right? That’s our job, to show up and help the Cubs win.”Mission accomplished, to this point, anyway.

The Cubs have spent the 2025 season scoring runs in bunches. Then came only nine runs in four days against the Pirates at Wrigley Field. But the Cubs took the series, in which all four games were decided by one run, winning three times, including in Sunday’s finale, a 3-2 victory in 10 innings. “That was a grinder of a series,” said outfielder Ian Happ, who delivered the walk-off single in extra innings.

One more thing the Sox love about Chase Meidroth? "He brings a little edge to the top of the lineup. ... I don't really hear him talk much. He's always smiling. Then, in the box, he looks like an animal." For @suntimes_sports: https://t.co/ec7TRKmFLf

The Sox signed Tyler Alexander at noon today. He was still in Milwaukee after the Brewers DFA’d him a week ago. So he jumped in an Uber and rode to The Rate — and then pitched three innings for his new team. That and more for @suntimes_sports: https://t.co/7PwI8S4SMI
