Piñata scraps filled the floor of the loft on the second floor of the Student Center during “Get Mad!” on Tuesday, March 18. Put on by Student Engagement, the event lasted from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. as part of De-Stress Fest lasting throughout this week. The event intended to get students mad so they could “rage out” and let go of any troubles they may have. To do so, about 10 students danced, did kickboxing, blew colorful whistles, vented to one another and destroyed a piñata.

The college leadership will present the overhaul of Columbia’s programs to the Board of Trustees on Dec. 16 instead of early next year, moving up the timeline for when the board will consider the financial implications of merging and eliminating majors. Seniors in a School of Business and Entrepreneurship practicum have worked all semester to bring to life the college’s main fundraising event. The Power of Persistence Gala will be held on Thursday, Dec. 5 and feature the work of students from across the college who were invited to participate in live simulators for donors.

Faculty have been working under a fast and tight deadline for weeks to deliver on a mandate to review all of the undergraduate majors at the college and to cut costly or programs with low enrollment. The College-Wide Curriculum Committee met twice last week and has now completed its review of faculty recommendations for the college’s 58 majors. The recommendations will now be sent to the Faculty Senate Academic Affairs Committee and then to the provost.
