CLEMSON — No one saw Asheville, N.C., as the epicenter for college athletics, but that is the case this week as 32 Division I conference commissioners are coming together there for their annual summer meetings. No one is there to play golf and tennis this week, as this might be the most important summer meetings collegiate athletics has ever encountered. What is on the docket? The future of how the NCAA will be governed for one. Will there be a separate division created for the power conferences?

Four more female athletes are in the process of appealing the House vs NCAA settlement, which marks the second collection of women athletes planning to appeal the court decision, which was finalized on June 6. The women are arguing the structure of damages payments violates Title IX’s gender equity statute. On June 11, CBS Sports reported eight athletes have signed onto the motion to appeal and at least six of whom were women that played at the College of Charleston.

CLEMSON — When I think of the word dynamic, especially when it pertains to football, I think of someone who can score every time they touch the ball. It means they can score in so many ways. It means they can change the outcome of a game with one explosive play. Over the years, Clemson has had its share of dynamic players, even more so since the start of the new millennium. Guys like Woodrow Dantzler, Rod Gardner, Justin Miller, C.J. Spiller, Deshaun Watson and Travis Etienne to name a few.

CLEMSON — Like any big-time football program, Clemson has had its share of great teams and great players over the last 25 years. Of course, two Clemson teams won national championships, two more played for a national championship and two others qualified for the College Football Playoff Semifinals. Last year’s team earned a spot in the first ever 12-team playoff.

CLEMSON — It does not appear a new format for the College Football Playoff will be passed before the 2025 season starts, and maybe not for the 2026 season either. ESPN’s Heather Dinich reported Friday that multiple sources doubt any decision on the playoff format will be made for 2026 and beyond. CFP leaders are expected to meet in Asheville next week to discuss the new format. Though the SEC and Big Ten have control of deciding on the new format, they are not on the same page.

As a Greenville native, it makes me proud to see it prosper as well as it has the last 20 years, but I am even prouder to see that sports played a role in the city becoming better. This is proof, once again, how sports can impact so much of our lives, even if you are not a sports
